Man ... the Photokina is nuts this year ... - Klaus - 09-16-2014

I can't remember to have seen so many product announcements in the system camera arena during the last 10 years.

Seems as if everybody is trying to fight the inevitable downturn of the industry.

But it's all good, innit? Except, I concur, for someone like yourself, because it means a huge amount of stuff to test. Big Grin

It is not only the industry that moves in  system camera.

The average consumer is moving in this direction too, and  with crazy speed at least in the Netherlands.

Last two months I have bought

1. Tamron 17-50 non VC for 150 Euro

2. Sigma 150 non OS for 290 euro

booth in mint condition. Both owners said that they want something light

Seeing so many products is fun and good... but it complicates decisions. So far I'm happy with Sony for the 10-18mm f/4 and the 16-70mm f/4. But I'm disappointed with the weight of the 70-200mm f/4: from this point of view, the m43 35-100 f/2.8 seems a better option for size/weight; and now we have Fuji with a 140-400mm f/4-5.6. If you're searching for low weight in medium and long tele lenses, Sony doesn't seem the best option. Of course, there's the IQ point and I'm still trying to figuring out a comparison.

Small camera body doesn't always means small lenses.

I suspect expenditure was reduced during the worldwide economic problems of the past years, and now we're exiting that they're spending more and making more once again.

What's the point? True in general, but we're just seeing that some manufacturers are really offering smaller lenses.

The Photokina 2014 should be dubbed The Sampo of Photo Fairs. It just keeps churning out stuff, most of which is good and tasty.  Smile Not even DPReview is able to keep up with the stream of announcements!

The only Panasonic made some serious splash with LX100 and I am not Panasonic guy. Too many annoucement what will be made in future (maybe) So for me, it's kind of disappointment but times is changing fast and companies are not releasing new models just for Photokina, so maybe one day nobody will need it....I hope not!
