Can this lens be repaired? - evalon - 03-28-2012

Hello Photozoners,

A neighbor gave me this lens the other day and although I noticed that it didn't look quite ok anymore (it looks as if the top part of the lens is skewed) - I wonder if it can be repaired? That is - does it make sense to try to have it repaired?

Thanks for any inputs you may have,

Best regards,

Jesper

That's very unlikely. If this is the model without IS, you can get working units starting at around 30 EUR on eBay (at least here in Germany). The current 18-55 IS is available used from 50-60 EUR upwards and sells for just above 100 EUR new.

I doubt that any repair attempt would end at a lower price than that.

Hi Markus - thanks for your reply. It was my impression as well that it wouldn't be worthwhile to repair it. So I'll let it go ...

It wont be economic to pay someone to fix it, but if you have spare time you have little to lose by trying it yourself. I always find it interesting poking around the inside of a lens, although I've never repaired one before...

Like popo said, and in the *very worse case*, you might want to try just to push it back into position. You'd be surprised how many things are "engineered" to click. I "fixed" my 20mm f/1.7 like that after a silly fall.
