Thanks for the review.

I'm surprised—but pleased!—to read that this lens uses a near-stereographic projection. After lenstip did their review, I contacted them about this issue and they reported that they believed it uses an equi-solid angle projection. I must say that the samples I've seen from the m4/3 Samyang don't look quite as "stereoscopic" as those from their APS-C fisheye. Are you sure about the near-stereoscopic projection, or is it possible that it's just not as "near" as the APS-C lens? Unfortunately I've never seen a direct comparison between the Samyang and Panasonic fisheyes, or the Samyang m4/3 and APS-C fisheyes, to compare their projections.

How was the focus scale accuracy? A lot of the APS-C Samyang 8mm fish-eye lenses were quite a bit off, and needed a simple adjustment to adjust the focus ring distance scale to the actual distance. At f3.5 this did make a visible difference with my lens.

Are you sure this is the lens and not the body? I am actually wondering whether µFT bodies have no precise register. I have an Oly 12/2, the only m.Zuiko with a distance scale. Mine is reasonable accurate on my body, but reading the manual, I got the impression that is not to be relied on. There are reports about lenses being out of spec on the web. Also, the lens can be turned a fair amount past infinity, which makes sure infinity focus can be achieved.

Hi Sebastian,

When working at PZ, do you get a trip to NY with every µFT lens you test? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> Many of the samples here and of the m.Zuiko 45/1.8 were taken there.

Thanks for the report. I read it with a lot of interest.

My APS-C Samyang 8mm fisheye distance scale was way out of whack too. Focusing at infinity, the scale was showing 0.7m. Not even close. I couldn't reach the specified MFD either. Only later I found out you can undo some screws and re-align the focus ring, which I did. Infinity was now at infinity, and I could finally reach MFD.

Bear in mind the very short focal length of the lens, I suspect it is far more sensitive to extension effects than most other lenses. If the mount is even a fraction of a mm off, that could cause a very significant focus shift.

Hi, well it's just "near" stereographic... will try to make it more clear in the review.

Unfortunately not, but it sounds like a good idea - Klaus? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

Hi, the focus scale accuracy of our sample was perfectly fine <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
