Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - mst - 04-01-2011 Except for the coma, quite an attractive lens: http://www.opticallimits.com/nikon_ff/605-sigma8514ff As to be expected, large portions of the review are identical to the one Klaus posted yesterday. -- Markus Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - Guest - 04-01-2011 Would you recommend it over the Nikkor 85mm 1.4D? Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - Guest - 04-01-2011 Thank you for the review! May I ask you you to have a look at the photo attached? (f/1.4, OOC, just converted to JPEG in NX2) I own the Sigma and use it with a D300. My only real issue with the lens is a huge amount of purple CAs that are often very visible when shooting with f/2 or faster. Would you consider this as "normal behaviour" for this lens? I also have worse examples... Although you can usually get rid of the effect with Capture NX2 you often loose color information doing so. ![]() Besides that on DX I have the impression that the borders a pretty good. Like the lens alot! Thanks you, Markus EDIT: Just for the record: This is, how it looks after setting "Korrektur des Farblängsfehlers" to 75 in NX, and applying some sharpening and denoising. ![]() Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - mst - 04-01-2011
Would you consider this as "normal behaviour" for this lens?
Yes, a rather huge amount of CA and also Purple fringing is common with ultra fast primes. In your sample, I'm not sure if this is fringing or simply "normal" LoCAs. I have the feeling the focus is a tad behind the bike. This would explain the magenta casts in front of the focal plane. At very large apertures, it's rather difficult to find a subject flat enough to completely fit into the thin DOF. However, I must admit that NX2 did a remarkable job in removing the magenta casts.
Besides that on DX I have the impression that the borders a pretty good.
They are a bit better, yes. A DX review is coming, too (both in Canon and Nikon mount). -- Markus Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - Yakim - 04-01-2011
Which one? The Sigma? No and No. The new Nikkor? Yes and No (IMO). -- Markus
You mean that the 85f1.4 AF-S has significant focus shift and you'd still recommend it over the Sigma? Why? Next PZ lens test report: Sigma AF 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM - Guest - 04-04-2011 Thanks for the test, Markus (and Klaus, of course), great work. Results are just as I expected it. I'm looking forward to the AF-S review. Christian |
