Still great!

I might have to go for this lens. Cheap and I assume the same build quality as the 85mm 1.4, which I already have (but with automatic aperture). And it works on my Pentax Z-1p as well. It's so cheap, this and the Sigma 8-16mm might be what I'm going for.

Any idea if any mounts do have automatic aperture? Just curious since your tested sample of the 85mm does not, yet mine do.

Great performer!

However for APS-C, if one already own a EFs17-55 2.8, is it a good idea adding this 14mm full manual lens?

Yes, but it does not make as much sense as on FF because "There's a bunch of APS-C zoom lenses which outclass the Samyang in this respect".

Happy shooting,

Yakim.

Something just hit me, this lens will be good for astro photography, so I will be getting it, even if I might use the Sigma 8-16mm for other things more often.

I saw this just now (be sure to use 720p): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPbnHXQBh_Q

I checked with foto-tip.pl, they say the Pentax-version, as with my Samyang 85mm 1.4, has automatic aperture (the A-setting on the aperture ring). Maybe it's because of the pin that sticks out and controls the aperture on K-mount lenses, no electronics needed maybe?

I'll be buying this lens when it gets dark at night here and I again can see the stars <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

The question may be whether it's really wide enough for APS-C.

Exactly, mechanical coupling.

I am not sure whether it will therefore work well with the camera when it comes to metering. Something worthwhile investigating, however, because that would make life a lot easier already.

As Klaus says, however, you may find it not wide enough on APS-C.

Kind regards, Wim

It works well with the 85mm 1.4, so I would assume it does with the 14mm 2.8 as well.
