Nikon mirrorless system end of the month ??? - toni-a - 07-04-2018

Dunno how reliable is this info, anyway a new mount for Nikon is unlikely unless they maintain electronic compatibility and the adapter will become quite cheap without affecting speed since no electronics involved.
IBIS for Nikon hmmmmmm
only thing mentioned is resolution....the least of our concerns

Doh, of course it will have a new mount.

Good news for me.
A lot of good Canon/Nikon glass will be bargain at e-bay
"the new mirrorless mount will allow f=0.95 lenses" - good choise, since many modern 1,4 lenses are just good from wide open

50/50 chance that it's gonna happen - maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Smile

If Nikon brings out two FF ML bodies as it seems, the only glass going cheap on eBay will be the APS-C limited lenses, mot of them pretty dated, and the FF shards. For the good glass nearly all owners will get an adapter (at lest one or more), for Sigma lenses the owners will take the more expensive mount change or an adapter, too. Now it depends what you define as "good glass", miso Wink

And DSLR bodies, at least the D810, are sold already for 50 % less than new. I usually very good condition.

Nikon is aiming high with their prices.....so the performance must be there to match.......Sony took some time to get their 7 series and the A9 to where it is today, one by one they tackled the problems to where the new photographic "must have" AF feature is "eye detect" the AF get you out of jail card.
20 fps shooting, eye detect and 120 fps EVF refresh rate is their now stock in trade. (A9)
BTW Sony has launched their 400mm F2.8 FL lens which is a Kg lighter than Nikon's and a bit more than that for the Canon, it has a blisteringly fast railed linear motor, as will have their 500mm and 600mm when they are released.

Nikon is up against it with Sony!

Well, with that amount of lenses, it'll be for fanboys only in the beginning.

Rubbish. It depends how well the DSLR lenses will be adapted and soon the cameras will be for everybody (owning Nikon and) shooting often in LiveView or tethered or using it for portrait work. People who still have a bunch of Nikon manual focus glasses. Sorry to sound like a fanboy, I have more concerns about the success but missing lens choice is the least.

I see them as something interesting for people already in the Nikon system. My doubts are:
The first models will come with shortcomings, miss modern features, very probably can't compete with state of the art ML AF - so what reasons should one have to go Nikon instead Sony?
That Nikon is able to do something mirrorless - the 1 system is the proof. Unfortunately also the proof of solid misconceptions. Will they mess up less big time with FF?
Can we expect more than traditional ideas? 95% sure NO
A Kaizen concept like Fuji has to at least make the investment a bit more valuable?
A touchscreen which works well - and more important a better interface?
Better WiFI app?
Enough battery capacity and maybe someone at Nikon found out that USB can be used to charge a camera?
Seeing how Nikon goes the simplest and most expensive, yet wobbly way to design battery grips, can we hope for a useful one with added functionality?
How big will be the video shortcomings?

I don't even dream of Arca compatible bottom and side plate or of infrared focus patterns, of a menu system adjustable on a tablet or PC instead of the tiny screen, a real useful tilt/swift display. Knowing Nikon they will just stuck to their traditions and erase the mirror... But I'm open to surprises.

They're dead in the water without a Sony level AF in both AF-C, eye detect and video!

I see the D5/D500 tilt and touch screen though.

Sony's ship is already half way round the world, while Nikon are still tending ropes!

I'll take a guess, Nikon will have some very strong assumptions and will not be afraid to display them.

They did that with the 1 series, assuming mirrorless is for soccer moms. They failed. They did that with the Df, assuming people want nostalgia and a sense of heritage and tactile buttons. They failed. Quite spectacularly.

So what do you think they'll assume this time?

Another Df approach with lots of external buttons, nostalgic looks and nothing else but this time mirrorless?

Will they cater to the tech spec addicts and load up on features and numbers aka pull a Samsung?

A camera specifically for people who like adapting lenses?

Will they go the sensible way and release pretty much their D750 in a mirrorless mount, EVF and good AF?
