Making a good 50f1.8 should be easy peasy lemon squeezy those days, it would have been a shame if it weren't good

It is better than "good". It reaches the level of lenses like the Sigma 50mm f1.4 art, Zeiss 50mm f1.4/55mm f1.4, Canon 50mm f1.2 RF, just with a smaller ax aperture. Oh yeah, and that Tokina 50mm f1.4.

Good job by Nikon.

Exactly ...... and can be had for a tad over 500 euros ...... no doubt that price will drop!
