Why not combine both lines into a single D4, just as Canon did? IOW: who'd buy a D4x with the same sensor as the D800? I'm sure Nikon felt quite some impact on D3 sales after they introduced the D700. That's probably one of the reasons why there is an updated D3s, but not D700s with the same sensor, yet.
There'll be PMA (or whatever it is called now) and photokina next year, I guess by September next year we'll see a similar high end portfolio from both companies.
