In a way, the original Leica solution to digital was just this, although one had the replace the entire back. Never caught on either, too slow, expensive and too many compromises at the time.
These days it should be possible, although I doubt whether rapid fire shooting would belong to the possibilities. And Leica slrs were big already, too big if you ask me <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
