next PZ lens test report: Olympus M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 ED macro
#18
Doh --

Thank you for the link to that alternative review. As I read it he prefers the 60mm over the 50mm; stating that 60mm is a better macro lens in all ways and having better contrast and central sharpness as a general lens; with the one weakness of softer corners (when used as a general lens). My reading is that while he acknowledge that it is weaker than the 50mm in this one area in other areas it is better making it his preference (at least that was how I interpreted his words).

I am a bit surprise by the lack of sharpness in the photozone review (esp compared to the 12-35 zoom; in fact it begs the question if the zoom performs better in all ways but loca; but the macro is rated higher optically <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> )

The lenstip is with 12mp body and the slrgear i do not know how to compare though on the surface I think they show the 60macro sharper than the 12-35. Whatever the situation is this review suggest that while the 75 has a lot more to give; on a denser sensor the 60 will not shine (make maximum usage of the sensor)

No, this quote is not the "general performance" assessment, these 2 sentences are from the center crops comparison. And the center performance is very good, as with most MFT primes, no one argues that.

The edges are a different story though, pictures show it better than words:

And this edge performance comparison is followed by a different comment:

"Here´s why I started this blog with a negative remark. 60mm Macro is not as brilliant as an allround lens as the 50mm Macro is. Corners are weaker at normal shooting distances."
