Klaus, how do you explain that the 31/1.8's centre peaks at f/2.8 in the retest whereas it peaked at f/4 in your earlier test and peaks a little later than f/4 in this test?



Did you use the same copy as last time? Is it conceivable that an issue with a copy can shift the centre peak characteristic this much? Is it realistic to expect a lens design like the 31/1.8 to peak as early as f/2.8? That would be extraordinary and would be worth highlighting. Which other lenses peak at f/2.8?



N.B., your comment about a bokeh assessment not being warranted not only contradicts your take on the Canon lens but also is out of touch with how the lens is used by photographers. This lens is treasured for its outstanding bokeh which is unusually good for a lens of this type.
