Panasonic GX7 official - sort-of ...

Makes me wonder how it is positioned towards the GH3.

That said, I always appreciate something smaller. :-)

Unlike the rumor site, I think it stays at 16mp - the GH3 has also a 18mp sensor with 16mp exposed only.

From the rumored specs it seems the only selling point of this camera is a tiltable EVF. However, I have a feeling that this camera comes too late...

It may actually feature the old GH2 sensor... Else it looks really good, apparently a new EVF design with a higher resolution than the Sony NEX series, expensive though.

It is the first rangefinder-esque mft cam with an EVF and a direct competitor to the X-E1 and NEX 6/7. Don't know whether it's too late, but it was certainly needed. I still prefer the looks of the Fuji though  Wink

43 rumours now have a rumoured review that state the sensor is better than the em-5/gh3.

Needed and overdue, yes! Too bad that it is going to be way more expensive than the NEX-6.

What I find most interesting in this rumors is the in body stabilization. Seems like a weird move for Panasonic. Clever marketing could do with "autodetect if lenses has IS etc.. not so hard to make it pass.

I wish Oly would come up with a similar body as it addresses my main issues with the OM-D:
  • Range finder form factor: makes much more sens than the OM-D which wants to be retro, but doesn't make much sense: why the hump for the VF? There is no mirror box! Sony understood that from the get go; I'm glad Panasonic is realizing it too (as well as Fuji)
  • 1/8000: definitely a speed that is needed with MFT as with the numerous fast lenses, 1/4000 is not enough on a bright day (and please don't tell me a ND filter is a good workaround - it is not)
  • Small focus point: Panasonic shines here compared to Oly and their huge focus points that are useless when accurate and precise focusing is needed
  • I hope the GX7' IBIS will be as good as the OM-D, but I guess I can keep dreaming
  • I hope the GX7 will allow one to use auto ISO in manual mode (something none of the Panasonic bodies can do); Pentax (TAv), Nikon and Oly implementations work very well
If the GX7 addresses all these points, I'll definitely buy one even if its price tag is around 1k.

I would be surprised if it does... Anyhow, here are some more pics of this little beauty.

For the most part it seems to tick most boxes.

However, the big question remains the sensor. Will it be a Sony one or a new Panasonic design?  If past sensors are an indication, I hope for the former (especially when it comes to DR).
