I really am at a lost as to how a quality filter is going to have a visible impact on bokeh. Please enlightment. IN the worse case a very poor quality filter will cause additional flare and colour purity. For example tiffen used to make awful 'green' filters (very cheap glass is green along the edges) - no clue about current tiffen filters. I mostly use hoya multicoated filters; though over the years I've been given a few B&W filters (both plain which are nice and clear but can reflect light; and a couple of mc).

Anyways I live in the city and I find the filters collect quite a bit of grit on the front over the years ; so I'm happy to use them. If I take night shots; I tend to remove them to reduce the chance of reflection (though a few of my lenses still have odd reflections of point light). Anyways the minute someone start taklings about 'bad bokeh' from the filter I'm fairly sure the picture without the filter was likely quite poor to begin with.
