Anyways I live in the city and I find the filters collect quite a bit of grit on the front over the years ; so I'm happy to use them. If I take night shots; I tend to remove them to reduce the chance of reflection (though a few of my lenses still have odd reflections of point light). Anyways the minute someone start taklings about 'bad bokeh' from the filter I'm fairly sure the picture without the filter was likely quite poor to begin with.

I didn't mean to imply that these claims are proven, I myself am sceptical, there were never proper tests side by side for bokeh, and I have seen bad bokeh samples with the 100-400 without filter.
