Preview: Nikon AF-S 28mm f/1.8 G
#18
The sample images were all shot with AF, except for the f/1.8 shot of the fence, I usually do manual focus bracketing there (I go to that fence regularly with review lenses).

Personally, I have the impression that the focus shift issue is exaggerated a little. To be honest, I wouldn't have noticed an issue from the field images. I'm not saying there is no focus shift (there certainly is), but that's not really a surprising thing for a fast prime. For most subjects and real-world images, the effect of this issue is most likely close to zero. Anyone caring about maximum sharpness at pixel level is well advised to use Live View anyway, regardless if he or she uses a lens suffering from focus shift or not. So, personally, I don't see a severe issue here and think that some complaints about the lens are a bit blown out of proportion.

I know you're all waiting for the review and I hope to have it done by the end of the coming week. The reason for the small amount of review work done in the Nikon section is that the company where I have my main job plans to lay off more than 800 people. I'm not on the list, but I'm part of the negotiation team (on the employee side) trying to achieve a lower number and the best possible conditions for those who have to leave the company. Since I'm not working at the corporate headquarters, where the negotiations happen, but a few hundred kilometers away, I'm currently facing quite some traveling each week (next to my regular work, which still needs to be done). These negotiations will go on for another while, but I'm confident to get a few reviews done nonetheless. There's not much work I can do while on the road, but there are a few boring hotel evenings ahead <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Once the review is out, it will most likely be accompanied by a review of the main competing lens, the Sigma EX 28/1.8 DG. I got that lens last week and managed to snap a few shots today. I'll post a link to the gallery in a separate thread.
