Dirt Cheap Underwater Housing for NEX (C3, 5, 5n) and Nikon (V1/J1)
#1
Hi all,

I just ordered this one for my dormant NEX 5:

100 bucks compared to about a grand (for system cameras) is hard to beat.

Considering that the NEX 5 and the C3 are discontinued and extremely inexpensive at the moment this may be an interesting option for divers on a budget.

The manufacturer also offers housings for other configurations (NEX 5n, Nikon V1/J1).

I haven't seen those in the wild though (not at Foto-Tip at least).

Klaus, actually there used to be a very extensive thread at dpreview forum; even includes modifications the users found neccessary. Though no worthy pictures so far <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />. Try to find it, there's lots of useful info there.

I'm watching these cases for several months - with a rising appetite. Unfortunately I currently have no job and no income, so cannot afford it.

You chose the version for 16mm lens, didn't you? From my experience (http://www.lazyconv.com/papers/Minolta5d_UW.pdf), and because the 16-mm version still comes with flat port, I'd choose the slightly more expensive case for 18-55 lens. But it's up to you. Anyway, try to verify whether the existing Sigma 19mm prime fits the case. If it does, and if you don't intend to use flash, you may find 19mm more comfortable in the field.

And, by the way, I have an interesting idea for further contribution into UW photo technique, but currently no budget. If you want to invest some time into (field) research, and maybe achieve better photos in less time, please contact me off-line (see the mail in the paper PDF at the above link).

Regards,

Oleg.
