In the film days I was a strong believer in MTF tests over resolution. Actually the is a Zeiss brochure stating that what happens beyond 40 lpmm for a 35mm or medium format film camera is not that relevant. Films like Kodachrome or Ilford Pan-F resolve way more than these 40 lpmm. The claim is contrast at 40 lpmm is more important.



For their FT and mFT lenses Olympus publishes MTF data up to 60 lpmm - the highest I am aware off in the industry. Even a 12 MP sensor for mFT resolves way more than 60 lpmm.



While you have a point I think it is unlikely that a lens being stellar on a 12 MP sensor becomes a dog on a 16 MP or even 24 MP sensor. Also this lens is unique in specification - there is no other 1.x telephoto in the 135 ~ 200 mm equivalent range in the current market. If you need such a lens this is the one yo go for I think.



But then I am still printing images. If it looks nice in print I am happy. Some of the nicest print I have are done with a 1950ies Xenar (Tessar clone) scanned with a half-broken Epson 4990. Unfortunately getting E6 developed where I live these days is prohibitively expensive.
