Supposedly they are more after the medical business segment which is actually bigger than imaging. However, I'm wondering about the conflict on the imaging side.

Anyway, I think MFT really achieved a break-through here - Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Zeiss, Schneider-Kreuznach ... all members now. Busy days are ahead for Sebastian ...

A 4K camera from Astrodesign with the MFT lens mount is already there...

And I've read that the previous version is compatible with the F mount.

These are both 3840×2160 / 60p cameras... I wonder what kind of a soft- & hardware can display such videos <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />...

I am actually wondering whether Tamron will offer genuine µFT lenses or just adopted APS-C designs. With the latter the difference in crop factor often makes the lens unattractive for µFT users. E.g. a 30mm lens, which is an equivalent 45mm standard lens in APS-C becomes a 60mm in µFT, which is a bit in no-man's-land.

J.

PS: Sigma has always offered APS-C lenses in FT and now in µFT mount.

I guess it was inevitable at some point the 3rd party lens manufacturers will start seriously going after mirrorless cameras. My guess was that they would wait until most players have revealed their cards (everyone except Canon?), so they can make a generic lens as compatible with all the systems as possible, particularly on the lower price end. Of course that doesn't mean they wont make high end lenses optimised for each system. So I'd give this announcement a rating of "no real surprise".
<a class="bbc_url" href="http://snowporing.deviantart.com/">dA</a> Canon 7D2, 7D, 5D2, 600D, 450D, 300D IR modified, 1D, EF-S 10-18, 15-85, EF 35/2, 85/1.8, 135/2, 70-300L, 100-400L, MP-E65, Zeiss 2/50, Sigma 150 macro, 120-300/2.8, Samyang 8mm fisheye, Olympus E-P1, Panasonic 20/1.7, Sony HX9V, Fuji X100.

Hate to piss on everyone's candles again but it's been a lot of time since Zeiss proper, Tamron, Sigma and probably Cosina (don't call me out on that one) have joined the E mount. Did we get any worthwhile products out of this? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='<_<' /> Please raise your hands if you did. Anyone?

I really hope it's different this time though.

The Thai flooding has been a major setback for Sony (and therefore Zeiss).

Tamron and Sigma have no mirrorless products so they weren't able to release anything within a short amount of time.

That said I'm wondering about the idea behind the recent Tamron and especially Sigma announcements - they don't make any sense to me.

Zeiss products for µFT are available for quite some time. The same holds for Schneider Kreuznach, see e.g. http://www.four-thir...t/cine-sys.html for Zeiss and Schneider Kreuznach lenses.

From Cosina there is the 25mm/0.95 available for some time (reviewed by Klaus and gang).

Sigma just showed two lenses (adopted APS-C <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> ) at recents trade shows with availability in spring.

So products are there from those which joined some time ago. Apart from the Sigma products, the Zeiss, Schneider and Cosina products fill specialist needs which are not catered for by Olympus and Panasonic. Regarding Tamron, as with Sigma, I expect something which is more competition to the Olympus/Panasonic products. The interesting question will be, whether the Tamron products are proper µFT products like the Cosina product or "improper" like the Sigma products.
