IS AF necessary?

Hi Wolf,

I uses an Eg-S on my 5D II and an Ec-S on my 1D III, and in the past an EE-S on 5D and Ef-S on 40D (same sort of screen). This is very similar to the precision matte I used with my Pentax MX (and which is still mounted to it <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />).

Nikon doesn't do these things, but you can find some here:

The laser precision matte is the one to go for, I think, but they have a whole bunch of different ones to anybody's taste, it seems.

There also is Katz-Eye, just that it is even less cheap:

And there is BrightScreen - not a well implemented website, however:

I used a Katz-Eye on the 40D with split prism for a while, but I found it had no added benefit over the Ef-S on the 40D, so I stopped using it. The Canon version does just work fine. The advantage of the Katz-Eye for the D700 is that it is not cluttered, but then so is the D700 S from Focusing Screen. Plenty of choice <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

25% of shots not sharp due to incorrect focus is par for the course. Most of my unsharp shots are caused by movement blur - I often shoot people in very dim light, and even at 3200 or 6400 iso I don't always have a shutter speed fast enough <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />. However, these shots wouldn't have been possible at all with film anyway <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

Hello Wim,

Do you think that the R type from focusingscreens will do the job for my D200? I see that they do S for my camera.
