Sony has also announced a standard G zoom lens for 2012 so this should also be possibly for MFT.

Hi Klaus,

A healthy "I believe it when I see it" regarding company announcements, is one of the things I learned from you over the years. There has been a lot of, what you call "Vaporware" in the photographic trade in the past decade. I am a bit surprised that you take Sony's announcement as a given here.

Not sure if that 12-60mm in MFT form will happen... Apparently, Olympus say that "big optics" pose fundamental problems, in that contrast detect AF with its many small steps creates a problem (my guess is in AF speed) that they have "capitulated".

I read this as well:

Though this is auto-translated from Russian and might be "lost in translation". Anyone knows a better translation?

Well, if Leica an do it ... there're the two Tri-Elmars ... the others should also be able to follow.

A dumb approach would be to use the conventional Oly 12-60 or 14-54 II, extend the tube and optimize the AF drive.

Any plans for the 12mm f/2?

Well, it isn't available yet ...

Don't despair. Panasonic is planning fast zoom lenses.

For me personally I think I would be happy with the 14-54 and it is 1/2 the price of the 12-60 and a bit brighter/smaller. There is still the issue of gh2 vs ep/epl + evf. I've read more reviews on the evf2 and it seems somewhere between the gh2 and gh1. Anyways today there isn't really a decent standard lens (the kit lens is a bit weak (slow)); the pany 20f1.7 is not a bad i guess but for what it is it is 2x (nearly) 3x over priced. The 14-150 is not a bad lens if you want a all in one solution but it is also slow and at $1900 with adapter; well hum. I guess this is getting way off topic.

Any plans about the well established 40-150 m.Zuiko? It is less ambitious than the 14-150 but a lot cheaper. It would be interesting to see whethe or not it outperforms the Suppenzoom at the long end. Thanks J.

You lost me I am afraid. I know two Tri-Elmas for the Leica M, but there is no contrast AF involved in a Leica M. All external triangulation, which the Pens and G-Lumix cams lack the hardware for.
