next PZ lens test report: Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L II
#21
Really nice,

I dreamed about TS lens years ago. I’m really impressed to look at landscapes made by such lenses. I’ve talked with creators of such photos in photo expositions. I asked them how they achieve such stunning pictures. The answer was:

1. Take 20..50 pictures every day – analyze them and next time do better.

2. Look regularly at work of other.

3. Discus your picture with experts.

4. after 3-4 months you should get incredible good picture.

You should know that TS is difficult lens.

Funny enough I’ve asked two people and they all give the same answer.

However the second one gives me a second option.

1. Just buy this lens and enjoy it for a week.

2. At the end you will return back with a lot of interesting pictures.

Since I photograph only once per 1weeks it is a little discouraging, isn’t it?

PS: This is opinion of two experienced professional photographers. It doesn’t mean that is correct all.

Greetings,

Miro

Well, if money is no argument it doesn't matter anyway.

I think the TS-E 17mm is a little different compared to the others TS-Es. At this focal length Canon doesn't really have stellar options so it's simply also the very best lens here. A 16-35L isn't cheap either (albeit still more affordable).

Not that I'll be buying a Canon any time soon, so it really doesn't matter, just out of curiosity. How is the build quality vs. the Hartblei you tested some time ago?

The Hartblei that we tested quite a while ago had a substantially worse build quality.

It's a bit offtopic here, but since it has been asked for TS-lenses for other systems (including pentax), just a small remark: There are (Tilt-)Shift-Adapters which take medium format lenses (big image circle) for various mounts. A quick search led me to this site (in German, if necessary use google-translation). I'm sure there are other brands around. However, the problem remains that you need wide-angle focal lengths in terms of aps-c sensor size which are quite unlikely to be found among medium format lenses (where a 50mm is already a wide angle lens).

Well, the Samyang 14mm seems to be an obvious candidate here. 21mm equiv. is still very wide.

Is this lens designed for medium format? I doubt that.

No, certainly not. But you talked about APS-C DSLRs so a conventional full format lens should be good enough here.

I have found similar solution too, but they all requires 6x6 lens.

As already Dj mentioned, there is no option for wide angle TS

But how can it as at shift it tilt/shift lens? I am quite certain it won't be useable with that MF lens TS adapter.
