Pretty good. Now if it just was more affordable ...

Thanks for review Markus...

Ok, it's a real killer lens with it's speed and sharpness (and very sharp at f/4.0). But, there are still suberp 14-24mm and 17-35mm options on the market with almost 1000$ less price... So I think the rate regarding the "price/performance" is the key here.

Kind regards,

Hum. The edges are awful soft esp if you compare to the zeiss 35f2 (i know; f2 vs f1.4 and 35mm vs 24mm). Would be interesting to see how it compares to the zeiss 24f2 (sony) on dx sensor. Hum. Then again if you need f1.4 you need f1.4

It seems like it's a little better than the Pentax 24mm f/2, but not a whole lot. Less distortion, a little less vignetting, the center sharpness is very good on both, but the Pentax pulls ahead, but the corner sharpness on the Nikon gets better faster. CA is about the same. Build quality is probably better on the Nikon.

Is the difference worth two more stars (twice as many)? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I have the Pentax, and I'm very happy with it, bokeh is good, sharpness is very good I think (I have newer lenses that are very sharp).

Well, border sharpness is way behind with the Pentax lens. Corner sharpness wasn't measured.

So, yes, I think the two stars difference are reasonable.

Well, yes. But with such a fast lens, it's also a matter of priorities, which part of the performance you care about most. If you're after excellent sharpness stopped down, there are certainly more affordable options. On the other hand, you won't need an f/1.4 lens for this to start with.

Price/Performance is always a bit tough to rate. Depending on priorities, you could give anything from 1 to 5 stars for a special purpose tool (ok, maybe 1.5 to 4.5 in case of the AF-S 24 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> )

Is this a FF compatible lens? If so, it looks like its gonna be quite nasty in the corners with resolution and vignetting being drastic!

Actually its not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact it seems to hold better than the canon 24LII on FF?

Well, I guess they are rather close in the field.

While we're talking about "in the field": had some fun with this lens at the 40th anniversary of a local aero club. All shots on FX, though. And on some I even managed to stop down <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
