Next PZ lens test report: Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 VC (Nikon DX)
#1
This has been out for a few days already, but I guess it went mostly unnoticed.

If you've read the review of the Canon mount version, there's nothing new in this one for you. In fact, large parts of both reviews are identical.

This is the first of a couple of DX reviews that mark the end of the D200 era on photozone.

I think it has gone unnoticed because you have forgotten to make it appear in the home page, it does not appear in "PHOTOZONE UPDATES". <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hi,

just curious - is there any differnce in MTF with VC On versus Off? I guess, tests are done with VC Off?

Regards,

A.

The tests must be performed with VC off. The marginal corrections of the image stabilizer would spoil the results to some degrees.

I know it's not relevant to the lens performance, but the Tamron marketing team seriously need a few lessons from Apple:

iPod - Simple, catchy, easy to remember.

Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] VC - What??? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Or this little peach:

Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) XR macro <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Seriously, if Tamron manufactured cars, they'd need to extend the rear panel just to get the name on:

Tamron Road Cruiser V6 GT 3000cc 4x4 AWD TDI OHV ABS ALB SUV OMG IMHO LMAO LOL ...

Now that's not exactly fair is it? An ipod is not just an ipod.

For example, to give a specific model you should say something like

"iPod Nano 4th generation 8GB in Black."

Or, if someone asks which lens you have, just say "Tamron". Maybe use the model number instead of the full name e.g. Tamron B005 for the above example.

We now return you to lens review discussion...

Thnx Markus for the latest batch of reviews, nice to read. Did I miss a comment of you somewhere in the forum or wasn't the successor of the D200 mentioned yet? Is it the D7000 or will you use the DX setting of the D3x?

I had the D7000 in my hands on Photokina and it is really the kind of camera I wished for, great compromise between Dx0 and Dx00 series.

Not sure if I mentioned it here before: it's the D7000. The DX mode of the D3x wouldn't make much sense, since it offers roughly the same resolution as the D200.

I ordered the camera today and may have it tomorrow already. I also liked it a lot when I tried it at photokina. Nice set of features in a not too small body. Will be a nice 2nd body next to the D3x.

Still, at least 2 more D200-based reviews to come (a big lens and a small lens).

I was planning to review the 55-300 VR on the D200, too, but that one may shift over to the D7000. Or, having spent some time on measurements already, I may publish it as a pure lab test with the D200 and do a full review (including field test) with the D7000. Haven't decided yet.
