That's also quite interesting, isn't it ...

So, in use, the Oly isn't actually that much smaller? Or at least not shorter?

P.S.: Probably should have cleaned my girl <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Perhaps not but in the bag/storage it is <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Question does that additional extension suggest over time it will need calibration ?

Well, it's more sturdy than the Oly 14-42 Kit zoom. However, yes, long term durability may be an issue.
On the contrary the lens tube is so exceedingly light weight that the wear-out effects are probably lower.
And another "feature" shared by both of my Panasonic lenses (20 & 14-45, dunno if the 7-14 is affected): focusing ring resistance varies a lot with ambiant temperature. It's perfectly normal up to some point but here it is frankly a little dubious. Veeeery stiff in winter conditions (0-5°c) and very loose above 25°c. Never had any of this with say USM & EF-S lenses. Not really an issue as they're not mechanically linked but still a bit of a downer on these otherwise decently build lenses.

Yes, that Panasonic rubber seems to feature a higher than usual dust gravity. It's the same on the other lenses here.
No wet cleaning please <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sylvain,
Never thought of a lens as female! To me they were always neutral <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Though I am still lost on context. Did you borrow your sample to Klaus? That is very kind of you <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Though if I had it new, I couldn't part with it for that long as shipping and testing requires <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> At least for as long as the lense wouldn't have become old and the hype moved to something else.
