14/1.8 Art? [Image: drinb27x24.gif]

Happy me, I stayed away from their 12-24 Art. And the thinking process about "15 or 11mm Irix firefly?" is not finished. Sigma would be something worth a closer look.

As for the rest: [Image: zeitg29x23.gif] (okay, the 100-400 could be cool)

A couple of kilograms more glass in the shelves.

What is a contemporary lens (i.e, the 100-400)? Does that suggeset it will not be in the same league as an art lens ?

Well, yes (see the 150-600 C vs. 150-600 S, even though the C lens is still reportedly very good.

I am more surprised not by the C designation but by the aperture - which, in all fairness, would probably allow it to be more compact. However, these two factors combined lead me to the thought that there may be an S version to follow which would likely directly compete with the Canon 100-400 II and the Nikon 80-400 G. Smile

As for the other... the 24-70 doesn't really interest me; the 135/1.8 would be cool - remember that in the late 70s and early 80s there was a thriving market for 135/1.8 constructions with Sigma providing some of them - but I feel that a 135/2 OS might've been a better idea.

The 14/1.8... woohoo. I can only imagine how large it might be - at least as big as the 20/1.4 and with more curved front glass. Maybe my 14/2.8 is in danger now (even though I'd like to see an even shorter FL lens instead like a 12/3.5 or 12/4). But if they can pull it off... one more notch for unparalleled technical achievement to them!

Well if 24-70f2.8 OS ART is good enough, finally in Canon land there's an alternative to 17-55f2.8 IS, I still have my full frame gear, will wait before selling.

This one should be a hit, let's see size and weight of 135mm f1.8, anyway canon 135mmf2.0 is hard to beat.

As for the 100-400,unless price argument dunno where is her place between the 150-600 and the excellent Canon 100-400 that is very decent and almost one stop faster

I'm pretty sure there will not be a Sports-version of the 100-400 - it's meant as a Superzoom for those who are not happy with only 70-300. A lot of the C series is only in that series, there's no 17-70 Art or Sports. The Fuji 100-400 also has f/4.5-5.6, but I reckon the Sigma will be around half the price and still decent enough.

Today I saw three lenses we recently talked about: The 105/1.4 G, the Sigma 85/1.4 A and the 500/4 S. The Nikon is already a nice bucket, but the Sigma throws enough shadow to make the Nikon disappear  ^_^ the 85, that is. Extrapolating the 85/1.4 to 135/1.8 I imagine a thing which will nearly be as big as a 200/2. Good luck with handling (and finetuning) this monster on a DSLR.

The 500/4 looks really cool.

Some pictures have leaked - I'm not sure how authentic they are. But an 82mm filter thread is implied for the 24-70 and 135, 67mm (!) for the 100-400.

I think there may be yet hope for a 80(100)-400/4.5-5.6 - after all, Sigma has a current (?) 120-400/4.5-5.6 model.

120-400??? I know of a 120-300/2.8 Sports but the one you mention I could not find at Sigma US or DE - do I need to look a RU?

Only M82 for the 135/1.8 - the theoretical ø is 75 mm for the glass. M82 would be a bit close to the front lens? The 24-105 has M82, too, but only f/4 - I doubt the 135/1.8 will be so tiny. The 85/1.4 has M86 (front lens theoretical ø 60.7 mm)

I guess Zeiss won't be the only one to offer such lens.

Do you think Sigma will use APO element?

Look no further than Photozone, Joachim. Smile

Looks like this lens was discontinued in the interim - so that's one more reason to expect a successor. Whether this new 100-400 is one remains to be seen. Smile

Re: the 135/1.8 filter threads - there have been some such lenses with 77mm filters (most importantly, the fabulous Zeiss ZA). However, 82mm is the new 77mm anyway. Smile
