Panasonic S1 & S1R announced (development)
#19
A couple of comments on the contrast detect system AF used by Panasonic..........

Referring to a existing Lumix M4/3rds camera, a utuber came to the conclusion that the system was in operation constantly,...."micro hunting"........in a typical scenario of a utube presenter sitting at home filming himself in front of a walled bookcase.........it could be clearly seen that while the presenter appeared in perfect focus, close inspection of the slightly blurred bookcase in the background revealed that the focus was changing very slightly and constantly........the subject remained sharp in the frame of course, buried in M4/3rds deeper DOF.

So I ask, is that how Panasonic's AF-C tracking works?........Constant and very fast micro adjustments?..........a sort of high speed suck it and see system?.......... instead of the large and easily noticeable chunks of back and forth AF movement which we see in Nikon's LV CD implementation, (the standard way of old)
.........Panasonic seems to do it with very many micro movements, which is more fluid.

Maybe the guy got it wrong........but it could explain why Lumix G4s/ G5s are not renowned for their AF performance........

Utube reviews of the new Lumixs are now coming out showing decent AF but still a long way short of the competition!

(everyone praised the high resolution EVF)
