Patent: Sigma 200mm f/2

This focal length and speed is one of the long term "want" lenses from me. Given the optical size, it could be hoped they could do one in the ball park cost of their 120-300 which is a significant saving over the Canon equivalent.

I almost picked up a used Canon f/1.8 at what appeared to be a crazy price. I was prepared to meet the seller (about 1h drive away), but never got a response. It was sold. I saw the same lens reappear on the same site some months later more accurately described as having been professionally cleaned of fungus, but as a side effect its coatings were damaged/missing.

Interesting, if they can keep the cost down. And get smooth bokeh.

The Nikon version is new between 5 and 6 k$. So, even if the could cut costs in half, it's a very special lens to buy. Sigmas are not overly wellknown for being lightweight lenses

I think anyone would have trouble making a lens in this class lightweight. Well, maybe DO would help. If it can be kept in the 3kg ball park that is ok with me. (roughly, canon 200/2 2.5kg, sigma 120-300 os 3kg)

What would sell me this lens is if it has well controlled spot sizes off axis and good (low) LoCA. The 120-300 does well in those respects, at least over APS-C coverage.

A 200/2 ... certainly a want-have lens for me too ... but I would think that

the Sigma will likely be not much cheaper than the Canon 200/2.

So I will probably wait until Samyang finally makes up its mind and

produces a manual focus one. ;-)
