Seems they are on their way 50mm 85 and 135 mm

it is time they upgrade the 50f1.4 since the best alternative for the time being is the Sigma 50f1.4 AR, Canon shouldn't be happy with that, hope it stays in the same price range otherwise

Patent filings are just that, patent filings of designs. Many never surface. The filings you linked to were from 2011.

Of course, sooner rather than later the older lenses will see newer and more expensive replacements.

Be curious what their approach will be when the f/1.4 replacement does eventually arrive. Would they give the high end f/1.4 space to Sigma and stick to a more moderately sized typical design? Of course there will still be the f/1.2 for Canon's own high end, even if differently high end. Or do some magic and manage to give a Sigma matching or beating lens in smaller package? Can only wait and see...

50/1.4L USM at $1000 and nowt else. Big Grin That would've been my answer a few years ago but now I'm not so sure. Either way, looks like there's nothing concrete on that front yet, so bring me my Tamron 45mm f/1.8 Smile
