Sony/Minolta noob question: Bright 'small' tele zoom? ~50-135 - Seymour - 07-17-2015

Hi,

is there any lens like the Tokina AF 50-135mm /2.8 AT-X Pro DX or Pentax smc DA 50-135mm 2.8 ED IF SDM (21660) for the Sony alpha mount? Or what comes closest?

I think I could really like the alpha 77 II body, especially for that swivel-and-twist display (how doesn't  EVERY manufacturer have this?!) but from a quick scan of available lenses, so far I feel a bit underwhelmed by what seems to be available.

Kind regards

Seymour

Sigma used to do a 50-150mm f/2.8 but good luck finding one. I don't think they ever sold in any significant numbers on any system. So now you probably either have to make a choice between getting a slower lens covering that range or a bigger 70-200.

The 50-150 is exactly the same size as their 70-200 anyway

The 2nd version, yes. The 1st version was quite a bit less bulky, though.

There's an APO-Version and one without APO in it's name. The latter came without tripod collar, was smaller, lighter and cheaper, but quite good. PZ only tested the APO-version.

Ah, the non-OS one. It sank without a trace very quickly after release, and I'm not sure it was even out in Sony mount. Anybody knows?

Dyxum's lens database (handy reference for alpha mount) only lists "Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 II APO EX DC HSM" if you search for zoom lenses in the range 49-151mm. Even if the other versions had OS, that was generally removed from the alpha mount versions due to body stabilisation.
