I read about this today. I ususally a adopt a wait and see attitude when it comes to lenses and really depend upon what you write before I make a decision.
In this case, and not being a real Tamron fan I just feel that this lens can only perform below my expectations for an optic like this. It is going to rely so heavily on software correction that I fear the end result. Now I know there are some very good lenses that do a software correction because the design of the lens and system it goes on but zooms in general are not the best performers in the Tamron class of lenses and this one seems to be even more radical.

As a past owner of the 18-270, I hope they do better than that on the long end. It wasn't that bad overall, but like the old saying goes, "jack of all trades, master of none". The distortion was not excessive, bit of CA on the wide end, bit soft on the long end... it was that which killed it for me in the end.
