new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Brightcolours - 12-20-2013 Quote:Not necessarily - a lot of them are made to end at 24mm to mesh with the next lens, a 24-70 or 24-105.I only know two: Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 and Sigma 12-24mm. The normal UWA's have overlap (thankfully): Nikkor 16-35mm f4 VR Canon 17-40mm f4 USM Canon 16-35mm f2.8 USM Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 Zeiss 16-35mm f2.8 SSM Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 On APS-C SLR there are only two examples of lenses with less/no overlap (depending on which APS-C standard zoom to put them next to), the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 DX and the Sigma 8-16mm DC. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - dave9t5 - 12-20-2013 Quote:I only know two: Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 and Sigma 12-24mm. Pentax and Tokina 12-24's also. The other UWA's that you list are for FF. They are not really UWA on APS-C. The 12-24's are 18-36 FF equivalents...to the lenses that you list. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - dave9t5 - 12-20-2013 Quote:Yeah, the focal length range is a bit odd -there isn't a matching 24-xxx lens. Of course, a user might want to skip a midrange zoom altogether, and go for the 35/1.4 and a Tele lens. My thoughts too. 10-24 and 55-200 covers alot. But I do 80% of my shooting with a 15mm, 28 and 58mm primes...don't need to have every single focal length available. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Klaus - 12-20-2013 Well, take the Zeiss 12mm or Fuji 14mm instead. The choice is yours. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - stoppingdown - 12-20-2013 The discussion of overlap makes sense in a different perspective: other lens catalogs offer more choice and you can choose whether you want a set which overlaps or not. Indeed the overlap can be helpful (more flexibility, as sometimes you don't have to change lens), but with a price to pay (heavier). Currently with Nikon I have an overlap (12-24 + 18-70) but I'd like to go with the lighter solution without overlap as an alternative. In other words, with Fuji, I'd like to see both a 10-18 (such as Sony's) and a 24-70 or such. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Brightcolours - 12-20-2013 Quote:Pentax and Tokina 12-24's also. Those are APS-C lenses. The 24-70's are FF lenses. We were talking FF lenses in this APS-C thread. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Rover - 12-20-2013 Quote:Those are APS-C lenses. The 24-70's are FF lenses. We were talking FF lenses in this APS-C thread. As is this 10-24. Speaking of this focal length: there is a Nikon and a Tamron sharing it. And though the 24-70 lenses are full-frame, they make sense on APS-C as well when coupled with a xx-24 lens. A few people I know were using this kind of setup. If I'd been shooting Fuji, I would've taken the 10-24 + 35 + 55-200. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Brightcolours - 12-20-2013 Quote:As is this 10-24. A few people I know were using this kind of setup. That is fine, but the 24mm overlap mentioned was meant in FF terms. The 22-24mm ends of APS-C UWA zooms are not designed to match FF standard zooms.... They merely mimic the UWA zoom range of FF UWA's. new Fujinon XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS - Rover - 12-20-2013 Regardless, they mesh well. |
