Looks nice indeed... I have read that the more interesting 24mm f2.8 IS USM performs a little bit less than this 28mm one. I am curious if your tests will confirm this (when you get around to testing the 24mm).

You take this lens and put in on the newly announced Canon 6d, I think that might be a knockout for video.(under 1kg) Would have really liked to see how it would perform handheld in video mode. Standing still I bet it would look as good as a tripod shot, with some practice you might even be able to get good moving shots out of it.

You are already shooting wide plus you have the apparently above average in camera IS, you could have on location reporters with these getting totally usable footage off a very compact setup. Plus you could throw it on a camera that is mounted(or holding in car) on a car and reduce road bumps(without large rigging).

I know video is beyond the objective of photozone, but i sure wish there was a stable source of reviews judging these lens on their video performance.

I'm slightly wondering about the specific movie support here.

I reckon there're three global aspects here:

1. a stepless aperture for smooth exposure transitions

2. a stepper AF motor for smooth autofocus action

3. auto-detect IS (static / panning)

-> 1. Canon has nothing here I think

-> 2. Canon has STM here but not in this specific lens

-> 3. yes, it can do that

Just having a camera on a tripod in a car (partly on a seat with the seat belt around the tripod) is enough in itself for steady video while driving on normal roads. For bumpy it might be different of course (will try that on my K-5 with the SR on).

Well, this solves the IS issue but you still got the issues regarding AF and and the aperture mechanism.
