The new D600 is announced - PuxaVida - 09-13-2012

http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25488/D600.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-TechSpecs

includes built-in AF motor...

AF module: similar to D7000: MultiCAM 4800 DX. Not sure how many cross types...

RGB sensor: similar to D3x: 2,016-pixel RGB sensor

Image sensor: The FX format res. figures show different resolution than D3x... I guess it's a different sensor (and I hope with better SNR and DR performance)

It looks interesting.

But they dropped AF microadjustment ability when compared to the D800. Don't know if the D7000 has it.

It has micro AF adjustment. Check the Nikon specs. Serkan, it has 39 and 9 cross types. The sensor is similar to the new Sony 24MP sensor, not the 3DX. At 750g this should be nice for your Viet Nahm trip Serkan. It is very flexible with DX shooting possibility of 10.5MP resolution. Looks like a perfect companion to my D700, with the D600 being able to shoot DX at twice the resolution of the D600 and D800 like video capabilities. Too bad it cant use the same grip, but..................! This one is a keeper, although I dislike that they call it an "enthusiasts" camera. But that is subjective! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I bet the street price in Europe will soon be well under 2.000€. The D800 is already at 2600€.

Indeed... But I'm not sure about the timing of the availibility.

Concerning the AF module: AF point count is not a deal breaker for me. But the usage of f/8 for the 9 cross types would be quite good.

Still too heavy; they should make it the size of the rx1 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

This is funny. I remember times when people used to say "This photo is a keeper." Nowadays you can buy new shiny cameras at a frequency at which you changed film in those other times. And call your most recent camera a keeper (even before you bought it), because you will continue shooting with it for more than a week. (And if you are lucky, you might shoot a real keeper with it within that week.)

This is not meant to be a personal offense, of course. It was just too funny. :-)

And sorry for posting wrong info about the microadjustment. dpreview have it in their preview, but their previews are often wrong in some spec details.

If weight is the only concern for a FF body, I guess Sony could find a lighter fixed lens than the 35mm Zeiss <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />...

No worries Thomas! It was meant to be funny <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

My only question is how do I convince the wife that I need a backup for my D800?

OK, seriously, it looks like Nikon has a game changer on their hands. Notwithstanding the fact that it doesn't shoot 9fps or have the pro whistles and bells, who would have thought 12 months ago that we could get a 24MP FX for $5,000 less than the D3X?

What I also like is the direction that Nikon (Canon) are heading with tethering to smart phones and the iPad.

The Ethernet connection is not something that I really need, but to be able to control the aperture from say an iPod touch is something I've wanted for a few years.

These are exciting times for sure, even if I have no use for this camera (being a Canon user and not being hell bent on getting full frame). Keep the evolution going! <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
