I see no hint of double lines, no nervousness, just a smooth rendering of OOF parts in the posted images. There is a middleground which is where this lens is IMHO. [/quote] In its focal length group, im my opinion, it is good. Not many 30-50mm lenses have smooth bokeh. Most are pretty bad... The Nikon 40mm f2.8 DX micro has nice background bokeh, as does the Sony DT 35mm f1.8. Certainly not the Pentax 40 and 43mm pancakes, to name a few. I think this 40mm STM sits with the better group in its focal length class.
