Just a thought ... Rainer

Full format DSLR sales have never exceeded 10% as far as I remember. The japanese market is certainly so far special that mirrorless sales are way above average.

28.1 % for the CSC (Compact System Camera) market, quite a lot. I think Canon has to rethink their strategy... And in that 28.1 % there isn't even a 4/3 type dslr or 4/3 semi-dslr...

22.5 % for Nikon dslrs, 25.5 % of Canon APS-C dslrs, 27.0 % for all Canon dslrs, Sony alpha 2.7 %, and all Sonys 11.9 %, Olympus 10.9 %, Panasonic 8.0 % and Pentax 3.0 %.

And the total for the first 20 is 83.3 %.

All of this provided my mental arithmetic is correct <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Kind regards, Wim

While I don't have figures, from memory, historically I think the 5D2 did surprisingly well, more so than the D700 ever did. But both of those are very aged now so you hardly expect massive sales any more. Still I wouldn't complain about 1.5% by volume sales of 5D2s. I'd expect a revival once the 5D3 and D800 are out, but from their positioning they're never going to be volume sellers regardless.

Did Sony ever get anywhere with their FF models? I don't recall seeing them on the top ranking lists.

....i can't believe that sony wants to compete too too hard with companies they are selling sensors to .....

and anyhow, apart from the manufacturers comp, the average joe has to be really dedicated to carry big heavy stuff around…. you don't see many tourists walking around like this….

CSC share could go closer to 40% in 2012 when the Nikon 1, the new NEX models, and others (e.g. the Pana GX1) hit the market in full swing. At some stage this is bound to hurt DSLR sales. I´m actually surprised by the underperformance of the Sony DSLRs but they have already a CSC product. What is Canon up to?

You tell me, Klaus, I wouldn't know, I only added the percentages for the different groups, from your topic starter <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Apparently, they are building a G12 successor with an improved sensor and lens, a super-G series camera. This according to rumours.

Considering they developed the 1Dx in about a year's time, if need be I guess they can do a similar trick with a CSC, but the G-series successor is apparently not going to be it. We'll have to wait and see....
