Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - Yakim - 09-20-2011 3cm. WOW! That's very close. You're likely to shadow the object. Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - popo - 09-20-2011 3cm? I wont complain about the 42mm working distance of the MPE-65 again! Then again that does have a longer focal length... But not only at 1:1. With normal light (from behind) the shadow becomes an issue a lot earlier. -- Markus Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - mst - 09-20-2011 I updated the review, there's now a small section dealing with working distance and the shadow the hood may cast on the first page of the review. -- Markus Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - Yakim - 09-21-2011 Thank you. Its front element is recessed, so it has less need of the hood. Its front element is recessed, so it has less need of the hood.
It extends considerably, too, but its MFD is even closer (14 cm). So, the working distance might be shorter than the Nikkor's. Unfortunately I can't measure it anymore, the lens is already gone. The Tokina's front lens however remains deeply recessed, even at 1:1. That reduces the need for a large hood. In fact, the frontmost part of the inner lens tube is actually the hood ... a small metal ring, that can even be removed (an thus marginally increases the working distance). -- Markus Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - youpii - 09-21-2011
I updated the review, there's now a small section dealing with working distance and the shadow the hood may cast on the first page of the review. -- Markus
Thanks Next PZ lens test report: Micro Nikkor AF-S DX 40mm f/2.8 G - Guest - 10-11-2011
The Tokina is the next DX review to be published. Not sure yet when that is going to happen, though.
What happened to this review or to the lens? You published plenty of other DX reviews.
