The initial user reviews and pictures look very good but I wonder how it would perform under rigorous test. I have 55-200 IS and 300/4 IS which I hardly use. I thus wonder if I won't be better served by this lens.

It's in my test queue (F mount).
Results look promising, however I have serious doubts about replacing the 300/4 IS. I would consider this only if I really wanted to narrow down the range to just one lens.

I'm very glad to hear this. I'll be looking forward to read it. I guess it will be tested both on FX and DX, right?

The 300/4 IS hardly gets used so I want to sell it. The 70-300 USD is heavier than my 55-250 IS but will offer better AF. Currently it is fine as I also have 135/2 and 100/2.8 IS but I dream of a 1D4.....
