If the "main problem" involves choosing the mount, then you're running out of time... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

No. My main problem is detailed in the OP. In short: There is not even a single lens that can answer all my requirements (fast + wide + small + AF). <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

I see. Have you decided which body you're going to get?

No, as I really don't mind. Whichever is in stock. MP count and FPS are meaningless to me.

Yakim,

I have a couple of comments that you may find useful.

-avoid Minolta 28/2, it produces "artefacts" in strong light - at least on my A100

-on contrary Minolta/Sony 28/2.8 works great and is small and "cute"

-there are confirmed rumors of Sigma lens incompatibility with A55/A33, see http://www.photoclubalpha.com

-(OT) 500/8 AF reflex is unfortunately discontinued, while it should be a hit with A55 if the viewfinder image gets stabilized; it's worth to get one while the stock lasts

-(OT) you are in Israel, aren't you? Show me the camera when you get it <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />.

Thank you for the info Oleg.

1. At this point I am not planning to buy any 28/2.8 or Sigma lens.

2. I am also not going to buy the 500/8 as it is simply too long for me. I have the 300/4 IS and I am selling it only because I don't use it. Then again, if I can get my hands on a Minolta 250/5.6 I'll probably buy it. It's just so small and cute.... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

3. If it will be in stock you are welcome to contact me in about a month's time.

Very nice vacation clip taken with an A55:

Alphamountworld has just posted their review of the A33 here:

http://www.alphamountworld.com/reviews/sony-alpha-a33-slt-review-alphamountworld?page=0%2C7

"Sony's new A33 and A55 SLT (Single Lens Translucent) cameras are a bold proposition and one with much potential on future designs. My experience with the A33 though was some what lack lustre in comparison to other cameras on the market for about the same price range. While there are features of the A33 that I like quite a bit (auto HDR, video, and the EVF/LCD) the amount of niggles I can recite or painfully remember makes it a one step forward, two step back type of camera in the scope of its usability. "

Cons from that review include:
  • Sweep Panorama is a borderline gimmick, a big let down
  • Below average low light AF performance
  • Buffer clearing time for Jpegs is unacceptable (about 17 seconds when buffer is full)
  • Impressive spec sheet adds insult to injury (what looks good on paper, doesn't always deliver)
Makes me pause...

Alas, no camera is perfect.... <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Well, it turns out I won't be needing that info after all. I found the A33 way too small. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />
