Same optics, only (maybe) improved coatings. And apparently, improved AF and IS performance.

Have you ever heard the term "visor"? In one announcement (https://photorumors.com/2018/08/30/tamron-sp-15-30mm-f-2-8-di-vc-usd-g2-press-release-and-eu-pricing-leaked-online/) it was this term instead of "lens hood" and I wonder if that double contour on the lens hood does move when zooming into longer range.

Yeah, identical MTFs ... although their marketeers make it appear as if this is a brand new design.
Well, it looks nicer than the old one (albeit I'm not really sold on the 24-70mm G2 ...).

Well, at least they did bring it up to the current level by making it compatible with the dock. And that design!..

(So Klaus, the second Tamron you're testing now is the 24-70 G2, huh? Smile)
