Alongside the 18mm that's probably the most interesting of the bunch.

I find 75mm a really rather uninteresting focal length (in FF 135 format terms), personally. Interesting as in unusual, for sure. And you typo-ed "f1.7" instead of "f1.8" ;-)

I don't think that you could tell the difference between an 85mm and 75mm shot. And fast 85mm lenses are very popular.

Woah, the lens is very small :-)
Very very intersting.
Sony FE has so many interesting lenses. Too bad I don't like their bodies...

Kind of a new trend: cut the focal length and get more compact although not beryl slow. Like Tamron's 28-75/2.8 (instead of a more complicated 24-70) and 70-180/2.8 (which is as compact as Sony's f/4).

Samyang's MTF curves don't look too promising. Seeing the 10 and 30 lines/mm I really prefer the Nikon version.

Somebody embezzled 10mm of 85! Smile

"Sorry guys, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the attendant economic downturn, budget cuts prevented us from making a 85mm lens, we could only get funds forĀ a 75mm".

If I was in the market of buying a FF camera, I'd have a hard time to even consider CaNikon given the wealth of lenses available for Sony.
Unlike CaNikon it was really smart by Sony to open their protocols. It may cost them some short terms sales but it's buying them long term market dominance.
Given the quality of lenses such as the FE 24mm f/1.4 and FE 20mm f/1.8, even the mount diameter argument is downright silly by now.
Now what they still need to do - improving the ergonomics of their cameras. It's a classic case of form over function here. Bauhaus design works for buildings but not for cameras.
Kudos to Nikon at least in this respect.

I tried the Sony 85 F1.8 and the Batis 85 F1.8. They have not the most creamy beauty.

Let's see this small little lens how it will behave.

Very clever to differentiate from 85mm

There are only a few lenses that produce a truly creamy bokeh (depending on your definition of creamy).
