The thing that is more surprising than the rear-display upgrade is the fact that the A7R III(a) isn't deprecated.

Almost a delayed April 1st joke.

Maybe they ran out of the old batch of screens, and decided to use the higher resolution screens they currently have in production?

Both the "a" models lack the "SONY" logo under the LCD screens, that the old III and IV did have.

One less brand label to tape. Smile (kidding though; I've only seen the biggest pro photogs tape the labels - and only to their Canon 1DX series DSLRs, not their smaller Olympus bodies)
