Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - thxbb12 - 04-15-2021 A very welcome addition to the Fuji lineup: https://www.dpreview.com/news/7811891323/fujifilm-announces-ultra-wide-xf-18mm-f1-4-r-lm-wr-prime-lens I really like its rendering and bokeh, especially given it's a wide-angle lens: https://www.dpreview.com/samples/9098977235/fujifilm-xf-18mm-f1-4-r-wr-pre-production-sample-gallery RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - thxbb12 - 04-15-2021 Bokeh wide-open is surprisingly smooth: https://www.dpreview.com/sample-galleries/0645558573/fujifilm-xf-18mm-f1-4-sample-gallery-dpreview-tv/6303498392 RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - thxbb12 - 04-15-2021 Looks like this lens is creating quite a bit of interest at OL (sarcastic) ;-) RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - faint - 04-15-2021 Looks good. I was thinking about getting Sigma Art 28/1.4, but my doctor recommends the Fuji instead. RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - Mikeporterinmd - 04-15-2021 I have been thinking about the XF-16 F1.4.... so, this lens? Of course I can get the 16 used and so save $250 or so over the 18mm. And I would sell my XF-18 F2.0 which is worth $150 or perhaps a bit more. Hmmm... I guess I'll wait to see its characteristics. The Fuji is almost equivalent to 28mm FF indeed.... 18 * 1.5 = 27mm. But.... that is focal length. The f-number? Equivalent to 1.4 * 1.5 = f2.1 FF wise. So if you were thinking about the Sigma Art 28/1.4 for its big aperture, you should ask for a 2nd opinion . RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - Rover - 04-16-2021 I'd probably choose the 16/1.4 over this. If I need a fast wide, then I need a fast WIDE (there's nothing wider at f/1.4, especially not in the Fuji lineup). Actually I was thinking of selling the Canon gear and going Fuji at one point, and the 16/1.4 would've been probably 2nd highest on my list of lenses to get. RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - thxbb12 - 04-16-2021 For landscapes, I like the 14mm f2.8 best. Very sharp and compact and for landscape no need for a fast aperture. However, for environmental portraits for instance, I notice I use my 18mm f2 quite a bit. Hence, I think I'd appreciate a lot the ability to have more control of DOF with this new 18mm f1.4. I find 16mm too wide for environmental portraits and 18mm is exactly right. In practice I noticed that I really like the combo (APS-C): 18mm + 35mm over anything else. I think as a minimal kit I'd be quite happy with 14, 18, 35. RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - Rover - 04-16-2021 To be fair, I wouldn't want a 16mm (APS-C) lens to be the absolute widest in my arsenal, so I would've probably gotten the Touit 12mm to shore it up. Pity there's no AF 10mm~ish prime for the Fuji system. ![]() (or is there?) RE: Fujifilm 18mm f1.4 - mst - 04-16-2021 No prime, no. But the 10-24 is no slouch. I personally don't like the Touit primes too much. They're not really superior to the Fuji offerings. And they feature the most dust prone focus rings I've ever seen ![]() My Fuji setup would be 14-23-50. I am not such a big fan of 28 and 50mm (FF equivalent) lenses... |
