Funny pricing policy (a6100 vs 6400) - stoppingdown - 03-02-2023

Sony a6100: 817€; Sony a6400 839€ (Amazon Italia). Why should one buy the former for a difference of 22€ and a much better camera?

All else being equal, of course it's better to spend a little more and get the better camera...

... But it's a slippery slope that made me end up with the Z9. :-)

The question is why Sony still selling century old cameras with rhe newer generation already available

I haven't followed sony but if one is an older model - typically the price doesn't drop below some point until it is officially discontinued and then sometime it is heavily discounted. It might not be as good but it might not have been cheaper to make... so they want to make what they can... if they can....

Both cameras are from 2019. At the time the a6400 was hundreds of € more expensive. toni-a, the fun thing is that on Amazon you can still find the a6000 from 2014; 600€ with the kit lens. It has been discontinued in 2020. But this makes sense since the mirrorless world is so expensive and this model offers people a chance for entering the system with a little spending. Honestly its pitfall is the lo-res viewfinder (reason for which I'd like to replace it), otherwise it is pretty good for still subjects. No IBIS, but older lenses from Sony (even shorter focals) sported OSS.

I still have the A6000 too, however I have a lenses problem with it, as discussed elsewhere, the kit lens I consider as consumable, it lasts maximum 3 to four months then you have to replace it.
Currently it has the 16f2.8 all the time
Another very annoying issue is sensor dust, Sony dust removal mechanism is not as good as Canon. And since I use it sporadically sometimes I have bad surprises
