Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA how fast and accurate AF is? - haring - 07-12-2016

The new Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA is here. Is there anybody here who can inform us about the speed and accuracy of the AF capabilities of this awesome lens? Has anybody tested it? Online reviews don't reveal anything about AF.

It is unlikely that this lens has been tested already.

AF accuracy shouldn't really be a big deal. We are talking about mirrorless after all.

The speed is likely to be slower than the 55mm Zony as the new ens uses a ring USM motor and large focusing elements. The performance will probably be more closer to the 85mm 1.4 GM, which is slow in practice. It is interesting how the Sony large prime mirrorless lens design use ring USM, I guess a small focusing element lens design has too many compromises compared to the traditional unit focusing approach. That is a shame though as the unit focusing approach is typically slow.
