Just saw a patent for Canon 70-200f2.8 DO
While the concept is attractive since a 70-200f2.8 is in the bag of almost every wedding photographer, I wonder if despite the gain in size and weight it is a viable option
AFAIK DO lenses have a rather poor bokeh, 70-200f2.8 is mainly am portrait lens, poor bokeh is toxic here
let's see if it will hit the market anytime soon

I think the rule is that there are no rules.
The early DOs had odd out-of-focus highlights but e.g. the Nikkor 300mm f/4 PF is quite decent there (although I am not sure whether its bokeh is perfect really).
I suspect that if Canon will ever offer a DO in this class, they'll keep the conventional lens for quite a while as a parallel offering ... simply because it's cheaper.
