next PZ lens test report: Zeiss ZE Distagon T* 25mm f/2
#1
Good with some corner weakness at f/2-2.8:

Thanks for the review.

The corners are surprisingly (for a more complex design) softer than the ZA and darker. At least there are less CA.

It is not the same lens after all. Manual focus lenses have a different design due to less restrictions on the focus group. That said you're right - it doesn't appear to be better than the ZA lens.

At this price I think I'd go for the Canon 24/1.4. The IQ difference at comparable apertures is not enough for me to give up AF and another full stop.

Not as charming as the ZE/ZF 25mm f2.8, due to the much smaller max. magnification and much higer price. Despite of its larger aperture than the 2.8 version, I guess many people would go to the Cannon EF 24mm f1.4/Nikon AF-S 24mm f1.4 rather than the 25mm f2.

57mm filter? Is that a typo?

And like Yakim said, if there's a 24/1.4 L then why bother with this... (on the Canon system)

Thanks for the review Klaus... Any inputs about the bokeh?

The bokeh is not great, but also not bad for this focal length. It is in the same ballpark as the Canon and Nikon 24mm f1.4 there, I think.

After all these years I finally got a guess correct !

No bokeh test? Did you notice if this lens had much loca ?

Thanks for the link BC... I think except for the purple flower shot, the bokeh looks very pleasing and the color rendition is great in all samples... And by the way, I'm not sure if Canon 24 or Nikon 24 could do better at that purple flower shot. Other than that; almost the same MF distance, same max. magnification, same ballpark with regard to bokeh... Maybe better color rendition and better BQ, but no AF, not weather sealed and corners are darker... Not hard to make a choice... or is it <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />...

Zeiss 25 has a relatively smaller front element compared to Canon and Nikon. I guess this was considered to be able to compete in prices <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />... I can't imagine the price of a full format 24mm F1.4 Zeiss glass...
