I'm tempted but if it has the same symmetrical design like the Leica M variant it would be pointless.

Any idea ?

Ah, forget it. I just saw some images taken with the D40. No good.

How can it be symmetrical at 15mm? It has to be retro-focus, does not not? *edit: Oh wait.. now I get it. The mirror has to be permanently up to use it. How did they do that with a D40?

Well, by hand. :-)
Actually I was in contact with a Pentax K5 user who did just that as well.

The 12/5.6 was also made in a similar version I believe. Back in the film days, it must have been cool. Now the market is awash with ultrawides.

I thought it would have been a nice lens for mirrorless (NEX/NX) actually (via adapter).

well, it sure looks like it will stick at least 2cm if not more into the body from the mount.
It seems to work on a D5, but not surprisingly, vignetting is an issue:

Well, on a mirrorless camera the construction is no drawback. The rear portion of the lens would, most likely, reside completely within the necessary adapter. However, the vignetting is a showstopper.

Should work with a Nikon to NEX adapter but is it going to be any different than the regular M-mount one?
