"Never-before-seen Sony digital SLR"
#1
Hi there,

it's time for a new set of Sony DSLRs:

I wouldn' be surprised if it's just a brand new collection of mockups <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Maybe "pro versions" of the NEX series so that you can use the regular Sony lenses <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

No doubt there'll be something new around the NEX system (there has to be, if they want to grab market share). With mockups I only meant the "never-seen-before" DSLRs <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

However, a pro NEX using existing alpha or Konica/Minolta lenses would have to give up one primary advantage of a micro system: compact size. There's not much you can do about the flange distance of existing lenses ... and in the end, all it would really need is a working adapter solution.

Nonetheless, judging from Klaus' reviewa and remarks, the build quality of the NEX lenses is unmatched in this segment (so, on pro level already) and there's currently noone targeting the niche market of a pro micro camera (but who knows what Oly/Pana/Nikon/[enter surprise candidate here] may come up with).

You already can use "regular Sony lenses" (if you get that adapter, obviously).

Not sure why one would think you can make a NEX camera where KM/A mount lenses can just work on normally... A-mount lenses are designed to have the distance of a mirror box between them and the film/sensor. A-mount lenses ALSO very often use the motor inside the SLR/DSLR body, for AF. And A-mount lenses with their own AF motor are designed to work with PD AF, not contrast AF, so, like PD AF lenses from Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and so on, their motor/electronics/software are not optimal for use in a contrast detect AF scheme via imaging sensor.

In short: not in any way relevant, that "idea".

The only thing approaching "pro" with a NEX like camera can be a compact NEX body with many real controls, and a redesigned interface, and a series of very high quality (optically) primes.

Such a camera can play a role in the professional field, for the professional photographer artists who in the past were using various range finder cameras.

But one problem still remains there: the 1.5x crop factor of the sensor.
