hmm... still on the learning curve with the 5D2 and my experiences today might have swung me towards the f/2.8 zoom side. I tried some (informal) shots of my great-nephew, alternating between two primes, the 35/2 and 85/1.8. I didn't use the 50/2 as I just couldn't do MF fast enough to be useful, and didn't pack the f/1.8. The 85 was a little tight indoors, and the 35 a bit wide, so I'm thinking the 50mm f/1.4 (or f/1.2 if I feel too rich) have moved up on my wish list a lot. But, I'm also thinking the 24-70 f/2.8L would be handy in this role too, unless there's a better 3rd party equivalent.
