Hi Joachim,
Guess you're referring to diameter..? 80mm compared to 59mm on the 1.8D..?
(otherwise it's just 1mm longer at 73mm, and 30g lighter at 350g)
I think that will be because of the in-built (Silent Wave) Motor... it's not much narrower than the AF-S 85mm / 1.4G
